Beyond the Showring: Safety at County Fairs

Our support of 4-H is not unknown.
We provide back tags and stall cards to the many counties we serve to indicate how we've got the back of each showman.
We invest thousands of dollars back into communities as we bid on and buy livestock raised by local 4-Hers.
We have employees that dedicate countless hours as volunteers of the 4-H organization and support of the youth.
We even feed the masses by providing pork burgers to swine showmen in counties that ask for support.
What we really haven’t talked about is our commitment to continuing to educate people on agriculture and energy safety even during the excitement of the county fair.
Recently Co-Alliance hosted grain safety training at a couple county fairs. There is great value in such training, and even more value when the message of safety can be heard by a crowd.
In previous weeks, our safety team has trained first responder teams in Lafayette, at the Clay County Fair and at the Boone County Fair. These events were terrific opportunities to train fire departments from every corner of the counties while also demonstrating to the public just how quickly grain entrapment can happen. We were able to welcome volunteers to the grain entrapment simulator so they could get a real-world, yet safe, experience in the dangers of grain.
Thank you to each county and community that welcomed us. We do not take lightly the responsibility to educate communities.
